The Parts of Medicare

Part A: Hospital Insurance

Covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and some home health care.

Premium-free if you or your spouse paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years

Part B: Medical Insurance

Covers doctor visits and outpatient care, preventive services, durable medical equipment, mental health services, lab tests, diagnostic services, and certain home health services

Monthly premium based on income.

Part D: Prescription Drug Coverage

Covers prescription medications. Available through Stand-alone Part D plans and Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage

Supplement Insurance-Medigap

Helps cover out-of-pocket costs not paid by Original Medicare, such as deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments.

Original Medicare typically covers about 80% of approved healthcare costs.

Part C: Medicare Advantage

Offered by private insurance companies as an alternative to Original Medicare. Includes some of Part A, Part B, and often Part D prescription drug coverage.
